We have often heard the phrase, “the devil is in the details”. Usually this relates to contracts that have a lot of legalize in them and are very complex. On the surface, things seem to be what was discussed and agreed upon, but when you look at the specific details of the contract, sometimes the actual agreement is different than what was talked about.
I have recently be involved in a situation where attention to details is the difference between keeping a contract and losing it. As many times as I have reiterated the importance of paying attention to the small details, this never seems to bubble up to the top of the priority list. In trying to understand why that is the case, I have observed that when it isn’t a priority at the top of the organization, no matter how hard you preach it, it doesn’t trickle down to the employees. As a result, the lack of attention to the details may be the devil that does them in.
It is my experience in business, particularly as an outsource CFO, it is critical to pay close attention to the details. It is those details that can make or break a company. By paying attention to the details, we can help business owners make critical decisions to lead the company and be successful. Don’t let the lack of attention to details be your pitfall. Beat the devil, and pay attention to the details!
